Maybe there’s something to those childhood stories, yes?
Not that I’m counting my chickens before they hatch, of course, but take a look at this week’s progress meters:
89 77% Analyzed Recipes*
I’ve entered/analyzed 58 so far. Now the original book proposal allowed for 50-75 recipes (10-15 in each of five chapters) so I *could* be done with that but I’m shooting for the 75 mark, not the 50 minimum. That said, I actually tested 90, and since the percentage complete is based on the 75 goal we’ll actually see it go over 100%. After I find the missing notes, that is. (Not everything made it onto my index cards and into their little file boxes. It’s okay, I’ll find ’em!)
What will happen to the overage? Not sure yet, but there’s always the possibility of a sequel (or, you know, shorter, single-chapter supplements), they won’t go to waste, I promise.
44% Inked Pages
I did finish up Chapter 2 this past weekend as well as the first 2 pages of Chapter 3. Things are going quite well and, as promised, I’ve included some sample panels just to show you what you’ll be seeing in the book:
And, yes, that large one in the center IS the one that took 3 nights of work just to finish (and it’s only 2/3 of that page). Thankfully, not all panels are that detailed, as you can see from the rest of the samples. (And, yes, they do have words, it just so happens that the samples I pulled for this week are the wordless ones.) In fact, panels like that biggie up there and a few other scattered here and there lessen any guilt I may have over skimpy backgrounds in other panels.
While it’s true that a panel without some sort of background looks wildly unfinished to me, sometimes you just have to make it simple so you can move on. I know that, but I don’t do it very often.
Now, progress projections for this weekend? Maybe not quite as impressive as last weekend as we’ve got some out-of-town plans on Saturday and our annual-ish Pumpkin Party at the end of the month that still needs certain projects finished. Yes, I’m sure we could have cancelled this year’s party but that would have made me cranky.
You wouldn’t like me when I’m cranky.
(and a cranky cartoonist is not a productive one, either, I might add!)
*10-19 ETA: Oops! Seems I had my percentage off (must have divided by 65 instead of 75). Bother!
