So, how are your Christmas preparations going? Everything purchased/made, wrapped and ready? Menu planned, groceries bought, baking started?
Yeah, me neither.
I’m about halfway through my handmade list, the purchased stuff is only half-arrived (but what I do have is at least wrapped), and we have the barest idea of a menu for Christmas Eve, but I still have no decisions made on desserts.
But, hey, on the up-side, our oven (that broke on Thanksgiving Day) was finally fixed yesterday!
So, you know, there’s that.
Gaming is winding up for the year–Todd led his final DDE session last night, and our last home-game (for the year) is this Sunday. Will 2013 bring more of the same or something different? Time will have to tell and that bastard’s not giving up any secrets.
I still haven’t made any hard and fast decisions about 2013, so if you’ve got one I should know about, drop me a line, would ya?
Work continues on the substitutions supplement to WtFYRP, and, wow, there’s some serious irony happening at our house. Irony, karma, really weird planetary alignment coincidences? I’ll be able to tell you more in a few more weeks.
But I do have a question for you, dear readers, or more than one:
- What do you want to see more of in 2013? Would you like to see the return of the Food & Game Pairings feature? More game notes? Recipes? Or would you prefer I
yapblog less and get the next book done? I’m open to suggestions. (I can talk to myself without the need for the Internet, you know?)
- What sort of house rules do you have for your games? And I’m not talking about in-game rules, I mean things like a ban on political discussions? “Family store” language policy like at our local comics shop? Or maybe you don’t have rules, per se, but wish you did–what would they be?
- How do you decide who plays? Does the GM have ultimate control or does the existing group take a vote? What would it take to ex-game-unicate a player*? Do you allow spectators (I was fortunate enough to observe some friends games well before I got a chance to play, myself, and it was quite illuminating, but it depends on the group)?
Just some things I’m pondering as I make my plans for next year. I’d love to have your input.
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, Blessed Yule to those who prefer. Hope whatever you do over the next week gives you more joy than angst.
Footnotes, like fezzes, are cool:
*This has nothing to do with our current home game, it’s just something that my mind flitted over in a stream-of-consciousness tangent.
